Aha, so the truth is out! The report by Jonathan Tyler and the letter from William Barter on High Speed 2 make it absolutely clear. High-speed rail is all about more commuter trains for London. Get rid of these bothersome long-distance trains so the poor dears commuting into the capital can be more comfortable. It is outrageous to suggest high-speed trains will solve the mythical North-South divide; it will merely fuel the real divide between London and the rest of us.
