Transport for London and the DfT have selected Derby-based train manufacturer Bombardier as preferred bidder for the £1bn contract to build 65 trains for the capital’s east-west Crossrail scheme.
Bombardier beat-off competition from Spanish-based CAF, and Japan’s Hitachi, for the contract. Five bidders pre-qualified but Alstom and Siemens withdrew during the competition.
