The Government has approved plans for a Combined Authority covering the Tyne and Wear conurbation and surrounding council areas.
The CA will cover seven authorities: Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle-upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
