The transportation and construction sectors are experiencing the biggest demand for new recruits as the economy improves, data from a job site suggests.

Job postings have increased across the board since July 2013 on the site Indeed.com, but transportation features in the top two growth industries month-on-month and year-on-year, with a 41% increase in jobs posted in the year to July, ahead of retail, education and manufacturing, and only behind the real estate sector.

There are currently 59 transport professionals being sought on Jobs-In-Transport.com, with 18 vacancies for transport planners alone, on the website dedicated to placing transportation professionals in new jobs in the sector. August is traditionally a quiet month for recruitment.

David Rudick, commenting for Indeed, said there was a "staggering" increase in jobs in the sectors, both in the capital, and other cities, but questioned whether the supply was there to fill these jobs. Outside of London, Aberdeen, Manchester and Birmingham are experiencing the largest increases in jobs in the construction, transportation and real estate sectors.

"Given the enormous investment in infrastructure announced, it's worrying that the transportation and construction industries are reportedly the worst affected by skills shortages. With large projects such as HS2 and the national road network in the pipeline, there is a critical need to supply the talent to meet this demand."
