Bristol is to trial hybrid buses that automatically switch from diesel to electric power when they enter parts of the city with poor air quality.
The DfT is providing Bristol City Council with £1m from the Green Bus Fund to purchase a number of buses with the ‘geo-fence’ system capability. This uses satellite navigation to detect when the bus enters and exits defined areas of the city.
