Big drop in bus patronage

The number of passenger journeys made on local bus services in England fell by 119 million in 2015/16, according to figures released by the DfT.

Patronage dropped from 4.648 billion trips in 2014/15 to 4.530 billion.

The regional breakdown shows falls in every region except the South West. Even London recorded decline. The figures are:

• North East: down from 184.9 to 180.1 million

• North West: down from 447.0 to 433.8

• Yorkshire and Humber: down from 339.4 to 329.7
