A planning application to upgrade Gatwick Airport rail station has been submitted to Crawley Borough Council. The application proposes almost doubling the size of the concourse, new escalators, widening platforms 5 and 6, and a new roof. Network Rail says funding parties will make a final decision on the project in the autumn. A positive outcome would allow construction to begin in 2019, with completion in 2022.
