A £26m rail investment on the Isle of Wight will introduce newer rolling stock and an evenly spaced half-hourly service frequency.
The line between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin is currently operated by tube trains built for London Underground in the late 1930s. The infrastructure is primarily single track, with crossing places which impose a service pattern of two trains per hour spaced 20 and 40 minutes apart.
