Councils in England made a £930m surplus from parking activities in 2018/19, according to the RAC Foundation, seven per cent up on the previous year’s £867m and 41 per cent more than the £658m recorded in 2013/14.
The 353 local authorities received £1.746bn from on- and off-street parking, including £454m from penalties, and had expenditure of £816m, excluding interest payments or depreciation on capital assets such as car parks.
