The economy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the environment, not the reverse. I wish I’d said that. But it was, in fact, Herman Daly who’s apparently the ‘Father of Ecological Economics’. Anyway, the truth of his phrase was brought to mind recently when I read an article in The Herald with the headline: “Don't threaten our economy in the name of climate change”.
