Make zero-emission vehicles mandatory, says think-tank

The Green Alliance says the government needs legislate on the vehicles manufacture

The UK government has announced a 2030 phase-out date for the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles to encourage the transition to electric vehicles. And only zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), such as battery electric cars, can be sold new after 2035.

However, while sales of electric vehicles are increasing they are currently only 6.6% of total car sales, there are seven times more conventional petrol and diesel models on the market than battery electric cars.
