The Government has introduced a Bill in parliament seeking legal powers to build the next section of the HS2 network from Crewe to Manchester. The 52-mile route would serve new stations at Manchester Airport (subject to third party funding) and Manchester Piccadilly.
It will include a connection to the West Coast Main Line to serve towns and cities in Scotland and the North-West, including Preston, Carlisle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
