Highway Code will set out rules for self-driving vehicles

Changes will clarify motorists’ responsibilities in self-driving vehicles, including when they must be ready to take back control

People travelling in self-driving cars will be able to watch videos on built-in screens under changes being made to the Highway Code. However, using mobile phones while driving will remain illegal.

Drivers will need to be ready to take back control of vehicles when prompted, the Department for Transport (DfT) has said.
