UK Power Networks (UKPN) has been exploring the potential of car parks to become locations of energy generation through its Park and Flex study.
Long-stay car parks in particular have great potential to help power the grid, says UKPN.
Early results show that over 1.3m homes could be powered by filling up electric cars’ batteries in long-stay car parks when energy is cheap and demand is low, then injecting power back into the system at peak times.
