General Election: Labour pledges to repair and build roads, reform rail and bus services

If elected, Labour says it will bring railways back under public ownership, support bus franchising plans at local level and ‘forge ahead’ with repairing and building roads. Meanwhile, its manifesto makes just one passing reference to active travel

Labour has pledged to repair an additional one million potholes on England’s roads each year if it forms the next Government. This will be funded by halting plans for the “poor value for money” A27 bypass, it says. In March last year, plans for the bypass, which would involve building a 8km dual carriageway south of Arundel, were pushed back until at least 2025 as part of spending cuts by the Government.
