Ford starts electric drive unit production at Halewood

Plant will have capacity to produce 420,000 electric drive units annually

Production of new electric drive units has started at Ford’s Halewood plant on Merseyside. These electric power units will power the electric versions of the UK’s best-selling vehicles, the Transit Custom and the Puma.

Ford has made a £380m investment to transform Halewood from a traditional transmissions facility into an electric vehicle component manufacturing plant. The spending included £30.9m of governmental support via the Automotive Transformation Fund.
