Rail freight terminals can bring unwanted HGV traffic

Philippa Edmunds reminds us that 40 per cent of construction material for London comes in by rail (Letters 27 Oct). This is as it should be. Yet it’s difficult to find appropriate sites for rail hubs that are near enough to the central London destination for the material but avoid congestion and pollution on nearby roads caused by the HGVs taking the material away for its ‘last mile’.
