Ferry fares on routes between the Western Isles and the Scottish mainland are being cut by up to half from this week under a Scottish Government initiative. The Road Equivalent Tariff scheme sees the ferry fare set on the basis of the cost of travelling an equivalent distance by road. Fares will comprise a core cost plus an RET rate.
