Northern Rail and the Department for Transport are discussing stepping up the speed of Pacer replacement at the franchise.
The Serco/NedRailways-owned operator hopes to persuade the DfT to sanction an order for brand new trains to replace a significant portion of its Pacer fleet. NedRailways chief executive Anton Valk said the current discussions could lead to 55 Pacers being replaced by new, more efficient greener trains in the next tranche of fleet renewal.
