transport secretary Douglas Alexander has announced that the British Transport Police will be retained as a national specialist force for the railway.

The decision was made after the review of the BTP launched by former transport secretary Alistair Darling last autumn concluded that the force’s specialist knowledge of the operation of the railway is an important asset.
