Cold comfort as the snow drifts

Yes, Britain does not cope well with snow, but then Britons tend to ignore the warning signs

When over 400 cars were abandoned in Basingstoke by drivers caught in heavy snow falls on 21 December the vulnerability of Britain’s road system during extreme winter weather conditions was made all too clear. Even the fact that the Hampshire town is home to the AA proved to be of little use to drivers who found themselves sleeping the night in hotel lobbies and local office foyers. At least in High Wycombe stranded shoppers ended up sleeping in the beds department of John?Lewis.
