M25 Bell Common tunnel, Essex

Transport minister Chris Mole this week officially opened the refurbished M25 Bell Common tunnel. The 515 metre-long tunnel, located between junctions 26 and 27 of the motorway, has been refurbished and upgraded. The work included replacement of the mechanical and electrical equipment that was installed when the tunnel was constructed in the early 1980s. In addition, the tunnel safety equipment has been upgraded to current European standards.
