Gwynedd in A55 PFI deal

Gwynedd Council is to sign a new deal to maintain a section of the A55 trunk road in North Wales on behalf of the private sector.

In what Gwynedd describes as a unique contract, the council’s highway works service operates and maintains the 32km of A55 between Llandygai and Holyhead on behalf of UK Highways, a consortium of Laing and Carillion. UK Highways was awarded the Private Finance Initiative contract to design, build, finance and operate road in 1999.
