Bus operators have often pondered the conundrum of reducing bus stop dwell times in order to speed up their networks, but a research project undertaken by Swedish bus manufacturer Volvo could lead to fundamental changes in vehicle design that will assist this process.

The research project is being undertaken as part of the UITP-led European Bus System of the Future programme that was launched in Rome in September 2008. The scheme is being funded by the European Union and has 47 project...
