Motorists can’t be the judge of safe speed limits

The letters in the last LTT from Paul Biggs and Paul Withrington require comment.

Paul Biggs first claims that “travelling at an appropriate speed” will minimise collisions (I prefer the word ‘collision’ rather than ‘accident’). As long as the “appropriate speed” is to be judged by the driver then there is no evidence that this should result in minimal collisions. It takes no account of the difference between the ‘perception’ of danger...
