The DfT this week re-started its major transport scheme programme but warned that no new starts were likely before 2012/13 and many of the projects currently in the programme would be axed in the New Year.
The Department suspended the major scheme approval process in June, following the change of Government, leaving more than 60 major schemes in limbo. This week it classified almost all the projects into one of three categories:
