The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive is studying the potential for ‘tram train’ technology to replace some existing heavy rail services in the conurbation. PTE rail programme director Stephen Clark said the planned withdrawal of Pacer multiple units by 2019 provided an opportunity to review future rolling stock provision.
