Wirral Borough Council is set to increase its parking charges to offset the impact of the rise in VAT?from 17.5% to 20% on 4 January.
A report from the council’s director of finance, Ian Coleman, said the cost of absorbing the VAT increase could cost the council an estimated £100,000 in a full financial year. It said: “This mainly affects income raised from off-street car parking and from leisure centres.”
