An academic's report claiming that the decommissioning of all speed cameras could lead to 800 additional killed and serious injuries a year has been branded “unscientific” by lobby group the Association of British Drivers.

Professor Richard Allsop’s report, prepared for the RAC Foundation, was published last November and has been used by a number of local authorities as justification for retaining cameras in the face of budget cuts.
