New funding plan for Mersey bridge

Halton Council is changing the funding model for the Mersey Gateway bridge, in order to maximise value for money.

The £600m (outturn cost) crossing was originally to be funded using £123m of Government PFI credits, and toll revenues from the new bridge and the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge.

Project director Steve Nicholson told LTT that ministers were considering making a capital grant contribution to the project instead of paying PFI credits.
