The bus industry has marketed its product at motorists but the Commission finds little evidence of operators setting fares to compete with cars

 

Bus operators are much more sensitive to competition from other bus operators than from the car or other modes of transport, according to the Competition Commission.

It says internal bus company documents reviewed during the course of the inquiry “do not suggest that the threat of existing bus users switching to the car has modified bus operators’ decisions when changing their offerings”.
