The country's first lane rental scheme for managing utility works could be up and running in London early next year, the DfT has announced.
The Department will consult this summer on regulations to allow lane rental – whereby utility companies would pay a daily charge for working in the road. TfL will also consult in the summer on its plans to introduce a lane rental scheme on the busiest roads in the capital.
