‘Missing link’ in Glasgow’s urban motorway network opens for business

A new stretch of urban motorway in Glasgow that has divided business and environmental groups was opened this week.

The five-mile (8km) M74 extension links the Anglo-Scottish motorway at Carmyle with the M8 south-west of the Kingston Bridge on the south bank of the River Clyde.

The Scottish Government says the construction contract has come in £15m-£20m under the £457m budget. Land and development costs mean the total cost of building the road is much  higher. After the...
