A Northern Rail Executive could be set up to manage rail services across the North of England.
The idea is being explored by the Passenger Transport Executive Group (pteg) and the DfT in their discussions about the possible devolution of the Northern and TransPennine rail franchises.
“Governance arrangements will need to satisfy both PTE and non-PTE interests,” South Yorkshire PTE’s director of strategy, Ben Still, told the Integrated Transport Authority.
