Treasury rethinks how to cut rural fuel duty

The Government is reconsidering how to reduce road fuel costs in peripheral parts of the UK after petrol retailers threatened to boycott the initiative.

An informal consultation ended this month on plans to introduce a 5p per litre discount on petrol and diesel in all the Inner and Outer Hebrides, the Northern Isles, islands in the Firth of Clyde and the Isles of Scilly.
