Transport for Greater Manchester has announced plans to withdraw the fleet of trams that launched the Manchester Metrolink system in the early 1990s.

The 32 Italian-built vehicles (T68 class) were constructed in two batches, the first 26 for the first phase of the network between Bury and Altrincham, which opened in 1992, and the second six for the Eccles extension, which opened in 2000.
