The success of an urban rail network is ease of access to it. Inner city stations are particularly important for two reasons: accessing the central business district, and some of those inner city districts are where relatively low income groups live.
A lot has been put right to urban railways since the late-1960s so it could be very foolish to lose these benefits just because some planner unfamiliar with the needs of urban systems thinks stations closer than one mile apart are irrelevant (‘Glasgow voices rail station fears’ LTT 02 Feb). Glasgow Clyderail is good practice, keep it that way! Why not go back to marketing Glasgow’s rail services again as ‘Blue Trains’?
