Industry responds to Huntley’s charity fundraising appeal

Gary Forster, Chief executive, Transaid, London NW1
16 March 2012

Further to your tribute to Peter Huntley, I am writing to provide an update regarding Peter’s fundraising. Peter’s original target for his North Pole challenge was £10,000. Since his death his friends and colleagues have continued to donate online via his Just Giving webpage (www.justgiving.com/Peter-Huntley) and at the same time we have received a number of cheques. This morning the total amount raised has exceeded £14,000.

Throughout his lifetime Peter undertook challenge after strenuous challenge in order to raise funds for, and awareness of, more than 15 different charities including the Prince’s Trust, the MS Society and the Great North Air Ambulance. It is incredibly inspiring to see somebody devote so much of their time and put themselves through so much physical exertion, with the sole aim of raising funds to help alleviate the suffering of others.

On behalf of Transaid, I would like to thank everybody who has continued to make donations in memory of Peter. These funds will enable Transaid to expand its road safety programmes in Africa, helping to improve the skills of passenger vehicle operators and reducing the number of road crashes – a fitting tribute to one of the transport industry’s pioneers.
