Utility firms face repair bills

The Scottish Government is to propose that utility companies contribute to the cost of making good long-term damage to roads their works cause.

The move follows proposals drawn up by Scotland’s Road Works Commissioner in response to a National Roads Maintenance Review recommendation. The Commissioner also ordered research to assess the condition of utility reinstatements in Scotland and what role utilities play in pothole formation.
