Government to trial screening for rail and Tube passengers

The Home Office has launched a search for new and emerging technologies to rapidly screen large numbers of passengers on the rail and London Underground network for explosives and weapons.

The Home Office move comes just four years after the DfT decided, following trials of mass passenger screening, that 100% airport-style screening was not possible on the rail and Tube network given the size of passenger flows and large number of entry points.
