Independent backs 20mph urban speed limits

On 31 December The Independent suddenly became very excited at the prospect of 20mph speed limits becoming far more widespread on British roads. “That more than a third of local authorities have either already instituted a 20mph speed limit on some residential roads, or have plans to do so, can only be applauded,” the paper observed in an editorial. “And with public support for more stringent restrictions in built-up areas now running at more than 60%... it can only be hoped...
