London airports seek charge hikes to deal with falling demand

Heathrow and Gatwick airports have attacked the Civil Aviation Authority’s forecasts of passenger demand as they set out the case for above-inflation charges on airlines.

Heathrow said it has had 33 million fewer passengers since 2008 than the CAA had assumed  when approving the current ceilings on airline charges. The inaccuracy of the CAA’s forecasts over the last decade have led to “poor and unsustainable” shareholder returns that have threatened its capital...
