Local authorities and bus operators in England were this week studying the DfT’s new guidance on Better Bus Area (BBA) funding as fears grow that the Treasury plans to scrap or significantly cut Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG).

Transport minister Norman Baker announced last week that Sheffield will be the first area of the country to be granted new BBA status (winners of a separate BBA grant were announced last year). Other local authorities have now been invited to submit bids for BBA...
