DfT raises hopes for Sussex rail re-opening

The DfT has asked Network Rail to examine if there is a case for re-opening the Uckfield to Lewes railway, which closed in 1969, hinting that it could form part of a second route between London and Brighton.

Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: “I am alive to local interest in re-opening this line and wider concerns about rail capacity between London and the South Coast and this is why I have commissioned the study.”
