The DfT has published a paper explaining why a 29% gap exists between goods vehicle kilometres reported in two official datasets.
The DfT’s road traffic statistics report that in 2010 there were 26.3 billion vehicle kms by HGVs. But the DfT’s road freight statistics report just 18.8bn, a difference of 7.5bn (29%). Transport pressure group Transport Watch has highlighted the discrepancy (LTT 31 May).
