Rail passenger numbers boom

Rail passenger numbers in Britain reached 1.23 billion in 2011/12 – a 6% rise on the previous year and the highest since rail privatisation in 1995/96, according to the Office of Rail Regulation. London was the origin or destination for 61.3% of all rail journeys made in Britain during the year. The number of journeys within London grew 9%.
