If I was asked to nominate the most important English thinker of the 20th century I’d opt for Colin Ward. Writer on architecture, town planning, education, housing, transport, community development – and anarchist. He didn’t conform to the stereotypical ‘anarchist’; he wasn’t known to throw bombs or rage about ‘class war’.
