Labour opens the door to state-operated rail franchises

A British state-owned train operator would be allowed to compete with private operators and overseas state operators for  rail franchises if Labour wins next year’s General Election. 

Labour’s national policy forum in Milton Keynes last weekend decided that a major shake-up to how Britain’s railways are run should be included in the party’s election manifesto.

As well as opening the door to state-run rail franchises, Labour plans to create a new state rail body...
