Texting on a mobile phone while driving was roundly condemned by two leading columnists, and both also highlighted the dangers that cars pose to other road users in surprisingly strong language.

On 21 July broadcaster and journalist Rosie Millard used a column in The Independent to highlight the dangers of motorists texting whilst driving. “Everyone knows that talking on mobiles while driving is a bad idea,” she began. “But texting?
