A major new road scheme to remove traffic from Stockport has been endorsed in a study of the A6 corridor between Manchester and Buxton in the Peak District.
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council is already promoting the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road, which will enhance orbital connections west of the A6 radial road. The A6 corridor study by consultant Atkins suggests that this could be extended eastwards by constructing an A6-M60 relief road (see illustration).
